The pattern
There is an upcoming game called hogwarts legacy, its based around the world of harry potter and i am super excited for it. I needed something to keep my mind busy whilst we have to wait for the game. I decided to make a hogwarts house robe :D
I began this project by looking up some patterns, most free patterns that i found were not up to the standard i had in my head. But in the end i went to etsy and found a good pattern there, i also bought the house logo embroidery files.
And so i began cutting out the paper pattern. This is one of my least favorite things. But it was not that bad because i was listening to the harry potter audiobooks in the meantime. I have never read the books, so this was the perfect time to do so because i am sure that i will find some interesting references to the books.
Sewing
What is the deal with cats and sitting on all my projects :P
All the black pieces are sewn together! :D
after stitching all the blue pieces together i could pin them to the black layer. I folded over each of the color fabrics by a cm and pinned them together.
i also made a pocket for my wand that we bought in london. But the pocket is way to high and it looks very ugly :P
it was the first time that i ever did a pocket like that, with a little practice i can make it very pretty
Embroidery
After the 2 layers had been stitched together i could start on the next part of the project and that was the logo. I let my machine run on a test piece of fabric before i put it on the robe.
I used this stabilizer when embroidering
The only thing i didnt have with this logo is an Iron-on adhesive. I didnt do any research on that yet, for now i cut as close to the logo as i was comfortable with.
After thoughts
After the i cut it out the only thing that was left to do was so hand-sew the logo and the buttons on, i am not a very good handsewer but i can do it :P
I am SUPER happy with the end result, i do have some things that i would do different next time.
- i don't really like ironing but i am definitely going to do that next time, your project will come out looking waaaay cleaner then it does now
- handsewing the buttons with both layers on was hard, because i did not want the thread to show up on the other side. (on the next robe i made i did it the other way around, but i suggest doing the layers first before sewing because my machine could not reach underneath the button)
- the pocket is the biggest learning process here. I look the placement of the inside pocket literally and therefore it looks rediculous with the wand in the pocket (it points outwards because the wand cannot curve around boobs :P) i will 100% lower the pocket placement
